Eye Lift Surgery

Eyelid Surgery/ Eye Lift Surgery/ Blepharoplasty

There are several types of eyelid surgery and the one most often performed in Korea is where a “double” eyelid is created through an incision to make the eyes appear larger and rounder for cosmetic reasons. For Western patients, changes in the eye lid caused by droopy/saggy skin; excess fatty bags around the eyes can be surgical modified by Blepharoplasty.  It does not reduce wrinkles but enhances the appearance of an individual. This procedure is done under local or general anesthesia & last for 1-3 hours. Marking of excess skin & fat bulges is done in standing position. For droopy condition of upper eyelid incision is made in natural crease of the lid. Excess skin is removed, fat is excised & incision is closed by sutures leaving a very thin scar which fades with time. Conditions of lower eyelid may be corrected with an incision just below the lower lash line.

Incisions may be made from the inside surface of lower eyelid (Transconjuctival Blepharoplasty) – this allows removal of lower eyelid fat without an externally visible scar but this procedure does not allow excess skin to be removed.  Sutures are removed on 5th day & post care has to be taken like applying of ice off & on for few days.

Risk associated with this procedure are unfavorable scarring, Impaired vision, Dry eyes, Difficulty closing of eyes, Ectropion (pulling of lid downwards)…. Though eye lid surgery can be expected to correct certain conditions permanently but individual continue to age naturally. Lifelong sun protection will help to maintain the results.
