Tummy Tuck/ Abdominoplasty

It is major surgical procedure to remove excess fat & skin from the middle & lower abdomen- to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. Though this procedure can noticeably reduce the appearance of protruding abdomen, but at a same time produces a permanent scar. Patient who intend to lose weight or women who plan for future pregnancies should postpone this procedure as vertical muscles in abdomen that are tightened during surgery can separate again during pregnancy. During Abdominoplasty, the fold of skin is resected along with removal of fat & abdominal walls are tightened to restore the lost tone during pregnancy, obesity & old age.

There are two option for tummy tuck:-

Complete Abdominoplasty:-A long incision is made cross the abdomen right above the pubic area & another circular incision is made to free navel/belly button from surrounding skin. The skin is detached from the abdominal wall & muscle fascia is tightened with sutures. Belly button has new opening. The remaining skin & fat are tightened by removing the excess & closing the defect. Dressing/compression garment are applied & excess fluid from site is drained by temporary drainage tube which are removed after few days of surgery.

Partial Abdominoplasty: – This is performed on patients whose fat deposits are located below the naval & it requires small incisions. In this procedure belly button is not moved.

Possible risks of Abdominoplasty include bleeding, fluid accumulation, asymmetry, suture rupture…Results of Abdominoplasty are typically permanent & satisfactory.
